Very interesting and beautiful bird. I see that this species is found in more tropical areas and thought it might be related to the Northern Cardinals seen in our area but see they are not related. Great capture and thanks for sharing. fav vtd!

Aloha Lauri, I love your photograph and the looks of this bird. We have them in our yard everyday here on the Hawaiian Island of Moloka'i. I always thought that there was a difference in appearance between the male and female until I saw the title of your photograph. I just looked it up online and the two look alike. The birds that I thought were the female were actually their babies which have a different coloring. I wonder how they tell each other apart, must be a bird thing?
